BeeSpell is made for iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 18 or later. The first release does not include Mac or Apple Watch support.

Getting started

Create a save slot

Open Players and add a name for each child using the device. Every save slot keeps its own progress and attempt history.

Add words to practise

Start with one of the three bundled lists, import a list from school, or enter words manually. You can edit the word, sentence, definition, and classification at any time.

Begin a round

Select the lists you want to use, listen to each word, and type the answer. Common, Challenging, and Difficult words retire after different numbers of correct answers.

Import and export

Plain text files

For a plain text file, use one word per line. BeeSpell uses the file name as the new list name and applies the level selected on the import screen.

CSV files

A CSV can contain one word per row, or columns for word, sentence, definition, and classification. A header row is optional for a one-column list and recommended when adding the extra fields.

Exporting a list

Open a word list and choose Export CSV. The export contains the reusable word library with word, sentence, definition, and classification. Player attempts and practice history are not included.

Managing local data

Delete a player

Open Players and swipe to delete a save slot. This removes that player's progress and history. BeeSpell keeps at least one save slot on the device.

Delete a list or word

Delete a list from the Library to remove its words and associated progress and history. You can also open a list and remove individual words.

Remove everything

Deleting BeeSpell removes its local app container from the device. Files you exported and copies included in Apple device backups are managed separately by you and Apple.
